The Overlord Button

I find it incredibly hard to fathom how Foggy Bottom mis-translated “reset” from English to Russian on the gag-gift “Reset Button” that Secretary Clinton gave to her Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov last week.  But the Russian word peregruzka means “overlord” or course.  It should be button-slappingly obvious that Russian for “reset” is perezagruzit.

I would encourage the folks down at Foggy Bottom to outsource more of their translation work to the likes of, say, Google.  Click “language tools” just next to the main search bar, then enter “reset”.  The first suggestion will be устанавливать заново, or - once I retranslated back to English - “to establish anew.”

Simple enough…
